Barney Thompson Scholarship Program
A graduating senior from each Knox County high school will receive a $500 scholarship honoring the late Barney Thompson. The scholarship winners are announced at the Partners In Education Celebration Luncheon, which is held during the spring of each year.
Barney Thompson served as the treasurer of the Partners In Education Advisory Board for over 15 years. During his time as an Advisory Board member, he served as an important link between the two areas where he had invested much of his professional life: education and real estate. Barney was the key factor in the Knoxville Area Association of Realtors becoming a sponsor of the PIE program in Knox County. For nearly twenty years, the Knoxville Area Association of Realtors has been the primary sponsor of Partners in Education county-wide events. His leadership in this area has allowed Knox County Schools partnership program to grow and continue to meet the needs of the students of Knox County.
As a former teacher and coach at South High School, Barney Thompson impacted the lives of students in his classroom and on his teams. Through his investment of time and resources in the PIE program, his impact on current and future students will be felt for years to come.
Funding sources: Knoxville Area Association of Realtors, donations from individual Realtors and a portion of the proceeds from Dine Out For Education
