High School Students and 8th Graders Glimpsed Careers at 2014 Knox County Schools Career Day

From neutrons to nursing.  From college to carpentry.  The 2014 Knox County Schools Career Day at the Knoxville Expo Center had it all.

On Feb. 20, close to 2,000 students and parents visited with about 100 employers and educational institutions to learn more about opportunities for their futures.  While some students flocked to the Tennessee School of Beauty booth, others enjoyed touring the Oak Ridge National Laboratory “Neutron Simulator.”  Many showed interest in careers in construction, and just as many visited with higher education institutions to learn about careers in medicine, agriculture, architecture and more.

Career Day is made possible through the support of corporate sponsor AT&T and funds from the annual Knox County Schools Dine Out for Education event and the Knox County Schools Coupon Book.

For more information about Career Day and to exhibit at the 2015 event, contact Scott Bacon at the Knox County Schools Public Affairs Office, 594-1909, or scott.bacon@knoxschools.org.

Schooled For Success is the district’s career program for all 4,000 eighth-grade students. The program includes an in-school portfolio, community wide career fair, electronic self-assessment and summer internships.  Area businesses can participate by sharing information at the career fair and by hosting students for a two-day internship in late May after the school year has ended.
